Sedona Creative Portrait and Retouching Workshop

September 20th-23rd, 2018

cost: $550 plus $100 model fee

My wife Holly and I will be doing a new three day workshop here in Sedona in the beautiful month of September in 2018. It will be called The Creative Portrait Workshop and will be all about photographing women in special locations, indoors and out. We will have two beautiful models for two days, working with them separate and also together, trying all kinds of different techniques. From inside the studio using all kinds of props and shooting through glass to all kinds of fabrics, capturing window refections and also learning about how to shoot with strobes & ring lights indoors.

We will also take our models outdoors in different locations all around Sedona including an amazing auto graveyard in the town of Jerome that is one of the best locations we have ever shot models in. Having done many workshops in this special place, it is just incredibly special for capturing great photographs of women in this unique junkyard. We will also shoot by the Oak Creek River and all around the beautiful Red Rocks of Sedona in various locations for 2-3 days. This workshop is all about bringing out your creativity and showing what is possible by thinking outside of the box and tyring new things.

We will scout out some great locations mornings and afternoons and if time permits, we will leave time to learn post processing techniques on the computer. If there is not time during the first two days, day 3 will be devoted solely to post processing  on the computer. If you want to work on some sample images or your own images while instruction is going on, you will need to bring a laptop and we can try different techniques as a group.

We will also go over many Photoshop retouching techniques that will allow you to understand how to create beautiful skin and finesse the body along with my  other aspects of photo retouching. Scott has taught many Photoshop Retouching classes at UCLA and loves showing many methods to push your retouching skills as far as you want to go. We will cover many techniques that some of the top pros use for magazines as well as show many of the most useful and powerful Photoshop plugins that are incredibly powerful for portraits!

Getting There

Sedona is in the northern part of Arizona about 2 hours north of Phoenix and 45 minutes south of Flagstaff.  There are many car rental places at the Phoenix Sky Harbor airport and also 2 car rental places at Flagstaff airport. . You can also share a rental car with someone else from the workshop and I can work with everyone on this too. The drive is very easy along Interstate 17 from Phoenix to Sedona

Class size

I am limiting the class to six students to make for a much better experience overall. With less people, there will be more one on one time from Holly and myself for each student.

Cost

The cost for the workshop is $550 per person. There is also a $100 model fee. Items not included are: lodging & meals. We will carpool to locations with the models and eat as a group at restaurants for socializing, asking questions and continuing lecture discussions. Some people can also share a room with someone else if they choose and I can help to see who might want to share a room.

You can also plan to arrive around the same time in Phoenix Sky Harbor Airport as someone else and share the car to town.  Please email me here   if you want to save a space for this workshop. I cannot say enough about how beautiful Sedona is during the day and a perfect setting to capture portraits. Shooting in the studio will be totally different than outdoors and we will have lots of equipment to play with!
