The Art of Travel Photography
4 hours online Saturday, February 13th • 2021 9am PST / 12pm EST
This half day workshop is designed to provide you with all of the insights needed to create great travel images and become a better travel photographer. You will learn how to push your digital photography well beyond capturing ordinary snapshots with just a point-and-shoot approach.
Throughout the day, I will show many examples of travel photography from all over the world and explain my thought process and workflow from beginning to end. The emphasis will be on how to create more compelling images and how to push yourself to think differently.
It’s a big world out there!
During the class, we will cover the essential gear and understanding and mastering your gear, great travel destinations, how to prepare ideas and do research before you travel, logistics including planes trains and automobiles, capturing people while you travel, critiquing your own work and much more.
We will also go extensivly into time of day for your images including sunrise to sunset and also shooting after dark which can be one of the best times of the day to shoot travel images. There will also be handouts I will email to everyone at the end of the class that will cover some key travel ideas and thoughts.
Some Photoshop too!
We will also dive into post processing and how important this is to the final image and to your creative process. A huge part of the final image is the direction you take in post processing and we will cover different techniques to create the look you want.
I sell many images from my extensive travels across this globe and one thing I have realized is that good post processing is absolutely the key to a great final travel image. Often to create a stunning image, this includes spending a tremendous amount of time on post processing! I will show you how to push yourself to create one-of-a-kind images while traveling but a good knowledge of Photoshop is incredibly important!
Learn the right gear for the right shot
I have been shooting travel and stock photography for as long as I can remember and for me, there is nothing I love to capture more. Landing in Paris or Hong Kong or even New York and deciding which train or metro to take to my hotel is the best feeling in the world. Many people love shooting landscapes. My true love is shooting travel.
Driving from town to town with my wife in places like Rajisthan, India, knowing I am going to immerse myself into another world is what I live for. There are countless locations across the globe waiting to be uniquely captured.
Looking at the image above, setting up my camera for a panorama over the Arno River, right by the famous Pontevecchio in Florence is such a high. There are countless techniques and methods to capture & convey an amazing scene and we will cover a lot of these in class.
I love showing students how to set up for things like this and we will discuss many aspects of shooting travel in this pretty unique workshop. There is nothing like capturing one of a kind images while traveling to special parts of the world!
