Join me for a unique 3 week course where I will go through planning an image to capturing what was in my minds eye and then to the actual Photoshop work that finished off my creation. I will be working on some of my favorite & also best selling images and show exactly what I go through from beginning to end as there is a tremendous amount of work and thought going in to many of my images.

This will be a very special online Workshop on three Saturday mornings at 10am, Sedona MST, (9 AM PST) during the month of November, 2020.  Each class will be approx. 3 hours in length and we will go over much of my thought process before, during and after the shot.

Once a week for 3 weeks, this class will have live discussion & instruction covering my thought process throughout my workflow. This is a class that I have wanted to teach for quite a long time as I love explaining what was on my mind creating some of my best images. I will answer questions from everyone and a recording of the workshop will be available to download.

    Behind the Shot

The Thought Process

Quite often, I have an idea in my mind that I hope to capture. Other times, I might come across an image that I absolutely am drawn to and would love to capture something similar but with my own twist. Other times, my eyes see a shot unfold right in front of me and my auto pilot just takes over. There are so many ways to create a powerful image & I will talk about this in depth.

The Shoot

What is key is being super comfortable with your camera gear and settings inside & out. You need to depend on your gear and know how to capture exactly what you want. Weather, logistics, pre-planning, vision, ideas and even luck play a huge part in your success. But it is your skill and determination that pave a road to success. I will discuss a ton of different scenarios that  I have been confronted with over many years of shooting all over the world.

The Post Processing

Although this is not a Photoshop course, there will be a lot of Photoshop workflow shown, in all levels. I want to show many of the techniques I use to get my images to where they need to be, for myself and for the companies that sell my images all over the world. The ideas need to be fresh and powerful and the final product needs to be stunning for production and sales. I will go over using camera raw, tons of tools & techniques, heavily relying on layer masks and show my favorite plug ins for Photoshop that I rely on every day.

My Minds Eye

I have been shooting since I was a 10 year old and it’s amazing to find what you love when you are so young. If you stick with something long enough, hopefully you figure out how to push yourself to where you want to be. I never stop looking for a better technique, a different story or a more powerful final image. In this day and age of intense competition, thinking outside the box and having a ton of perseverence will pay off.

I love sharing my insights from all aspects of photography and post processing with students and have taught photography & Photoshop at many schools around the US including the Los Angeles Photography Workshops, the Art Wolfe Photography Center, Sedona Art Center & also at my favorite school, UCLA Extension since 2004, where I won Outstanding Instructor of the year for Photography and Photoshop

In this workshop, I am looking forward to showing how I approach thinking about capturing a shot, long before I push the shutter. I will also go into particular gear I choose and why some work better than others. I will also heavily go into my post processing techniques that really push my images to where I want them to go. Will be a pretty fun class for sure!

WHY I DESIGNED THIS WORKSHOP

Magazines like National Geographic and Outdoor Photographer & gear makers like Really Right Stuff and others have articles on particular images from photographers that describe in detail a ton of information about these images. These insights can be incredibly helpful to other photographers that would love to know more about these photographs.

These articles are typically called “Behind the Shot” and let the viewers know as much as possible about the making of an image. After having done this many  times myself for many magazines, I thought this might be a great idea for an online course!

Each 3 hour class will talk about:
